High above the Aletsch glacier

Snow sports

The Aletsch ski resort is located between 2000 and 3000 meters with views of the Matterhorn. The resort offers guaranteed snow in a sunny area of the Alps. There are ample black slopes, but more red and blue slopes and all are in perfect condition between December and April. One of the highlights is taking the gondola up to 3000 meters and skiing all the way to Luxlax or tobogganing on the 13 km long toboggan path. The gondolas up the mountain are a 5-minute car drive or you can utilize the free shuttle bus from Luxlax. There is also the opportunity to ski at Belwald and Zermatt. There are various hiking trips with the added option to return by bus or train during winter and summer.
Restaurants are everywhere.

Mountaineering and hiking

The area offers a great variety of hiking and mountaineering. There are set climbing routes around the Eggishorn and a rope park only 5 minutes away from Luxlax. The rope park is a fun challenging activity for the whole family.
Overnight hiking trips are an option as well and by using a guide you could hike to the Concordiahutte via the Marjälensee and the Aletschglacier.
The Aletsch arena also has canyoning available and all materials can be sourced at the local shops for hire or sale.

Hikes, snowshoeing and Nordic walking

All mountain hikes are marked with colored marker poles. There are some beautiful hikes in wintertime in Binntal and Obergoms. Hiking maps are available at all tourist information centers and will also be available in Luxlax.

Gnome hike

The gnome hike is a hiking track for kids. It is a track from Lax to Fiesch which is indicated by “Gogwargini”. Just behind Luxlax you will find the first gnome of the track.

Swimming and wellness

There are 2 different facilities to go swimming: Feriencenter in Fiesch or the Thermalbad Briggerbad, which has the longest waterslide in Europe. Thermalbad Briggerbad is open all year long and offers swimming pools, sauna and wellness. It will take a 20 minutes car drive to Briggerbad and we highly recommend it for the whole family.

And more ….

There is a lot more on offer in the area such as: Fishing for trout in Biel, searching for minerals in Binntal, Kneip-route in Blitzingen, riding bicycles along the Rhône river, rafting in Obergoms, kick-bicking in Belwald, free ride on a steam train, alpaca riding or enjoying a campfire at the community barbecue behind Luxlax.
